Broad-winged Hawk

This hawk is surprisingly tame–if you see a hawk on a wire in the North Woods and have time to pull out your camera to take a picture, it’s probably one of these. Broad-wings feed on all kinds of prey, mostly on the forest floor, but are especially fond of cold-blooded vertebrates–salamanders, frogs, etc. They flood through Duluth during fall migration, headed all the way to the Neotropics, from Mexico to Brazil.
