Bluebirds are distinguished from other thrushes by their blue feathers; like all thrushes, they take insects from the ground, but their hunting method, watching from a perch rather than running on the ground, is distinctive. They nest in cavities, and are often displaced and even killed by House Sparrows and European Starlings. The North American Bluebird Society provides a wealth of information for people interested in providing nest boxes.
