This stunning cuckoo of dry tropical areas in Mexico and Central and South America can also be found in Texas–it was the #500 species for my Big Year in 2013, and I’ve seen it many times in places from Mexico to Peru. It’s extremely sociable, living in tightly-knit groups, defending a communal territory and all the females laying their eggs in a single shared nest.
