Now called the Festive Amazon, this exquisite parrot is found in forests, especially near rivers, and also some urban areas in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Peru, and Venezuela. It’s considered vulnerable by BirdLife International and IUCN. An unconscionable number are still kept in captivity–most of Wikipedia’s photos of the species are of captive birds. I got to enjoy genuinely wild ones at the Botanical Gardens in Georgetown, Guyana.
