Coccyzus merlini
Order: Cuculiformes
Family: Cuculidae (Cuckoos)
This large, beautifully soft-feathered cuckoo is a generalist in diet and habitat, eating insects, frogs, snakes, lizards, small mammals, seeds, and fruits. It’s considered a species of “least concern” in Cuba, where it is found in a great many habitats and is fairly easy to see, but “threatened” in the Bahamas.
