This medium-sized goose, the “nemesis” bird for Jack Black’s character in The Big Year, breeds in eastern Greenland, Iceland and Svalbard, and winters in mostly in Great Britain, the Netherlands, and western Denmark; vagrants rarely appear in North America, primarily near the coast from Newfoundland to Pennsylvania.
