Family: Trogonidae (Trogons)
One of the most beautiful birds on the planet and the national bird of Guatemala also provided the inspiration for Quetzalcoatl, the Mexican god of wind and learning. The long “tail” is actually made up of soft lower back feathers; the tail feathers are shorter and stiffer.
