Laura Erickson’s For the Birds

This handsome woodpecker is found from eastern Honduras through Nicaragua and Costa Rica into western Panama in humid forests, sometimes visiting isolated large trees in open areas nearby, at elevations up to 2,500 ft on the Caribbean side and to 3,000 ft on the Pacific side. I’ve seen this handsome woodpecker in Costa Rica on every trip I’ve made there, but have no photos!
