West Peruvian Dove
|Zenaida meloda||Order: Columbiformes||Family: Columbidae (Pigeons and Doves)|
This lovely little dove was once considered a population of the White-winged Dove. Called the Cuculí in Peru for its lovely and distinctive song, it’s also sometimes called the Pacific Dove. Well-adapted to both urbanization and agriculture, it’s expanding its range south in Chile and has even been reported across the Andes in northwestern Argentina. It’s the very first species I saw in Peru, on the airport tarmac.
