Formerly called the Stripe-headed Tanager and believed to be a tanager, the taxonomy of the Western Spindalis isn’t fully understood. This species of the western Caribbean has very rarely been found in south Florida, with a few breeding records in the state. it is fairly common, and feeds mostly on insects and fruits.
