Sayornis nigricans
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Tyrannidae (Tyrant Flycatchers)
This exquisite little flycatcher of the American Southwest and along the West Coast is often found near water. Since I started birding, it’s extended its year-round range into coastal Oregon and its breeding range northward into northern Arizona and New Mexico and southwestern Colorado. Most Black Phoebes are non-migratory, and even the migrants seldom wander beyond north or east, but Florida has a few records and as of October 25, Minnesota has one.
